If you’ve recently lost a spouse—one question that may arise is: How much would I receive in Social Security survivor benefits?
I created a free calculator to help you get a rough estimate. While I hope this tool is rarely needed, it can offer clarity during a time of uncertainty. Here is a link to Social Security Survivor Benefits Estimator Tool.
💡 Why I Built This Social Security Tool
When I contacted Social Security to ask about survivor benefits, they informed me that they don’t provide individual estimates unless you are closer to age 60 and have officially applied. That left a gap in planning.
So I decided to build a tool that gives you an early look based on reasonable assumptions—for educational purposes only.
📋 What You’ll Need To Calculate Your Social Security Survivor Benefits
To use the calculator, you’ll input:
The year your spouse passed away
The amount of benefits they were receiving
Your age at the time of their death
The calculator then projects future benefits, factoring in historical cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs). While your spouse's benefit amount won’t change from additional work, it will increase annually with COLA.
📈 Assumptions Used In Calculating Your Estimated Benefits
COLA: Based on a 10-year historical average
No new earnings or contributions from the deceased
Benefits can start as early as age 60
